Sun-Star is a Japanese stationery company that plans, develops, manufactures and sells stationery and gifts with interesting and new design concepts.
The original Metacil was a pencil made entirely from metal. It was voted as the most popular product of 2022 by highly respected Japanese newspaper Nikkei MK and winner of the Paperworld Middle East 2023 stationery product of the year award.
But even with aluminium, an all-metal pencil was heavier than wood. And some people do prefer a more natural material, but would (wood?) still benefit from that super-long-lasting tip. So now we have the Metacil School Pencil – that same metal alloy for the tip, but affixed to a bamboo body, making it super light-weight, and rather pretty to look at too.
There are replacement tips for them of course and they’re available in a range of half-body colours. 8mm diameter, 140mm long.
According to auto-translate from the Japanese, these also bring “A new sense of needle flower”. We’re not sure what that means, but it sounds nice.
